Wednesday of Poetry in “Colegio Civil”

2009 “Verso Norte” Poetry Cycle will be carried out once again with the objective of promoting reading and local authors’ works.

20009 “Verso Norte” Poetry Cycle will be carried out once again in “Colegio Civil” University cultural Center (CCCCU, Spanish abbreviation) “Francisco Zertuche” room in a meeting for letters lovers.

Jose Juan Zapata Pacheco, Juan Jose Matamoros, Monica Muskaira, Sara Uribe and Miguel Covarrubias will be the writers who will read their own works on October 21st at 20:00 o’clock.

We have to mention that 2009 “Verso Norte” Poetry Cycle is a cultural event presented by the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL) Secretary of Extension and Culture and “Posdata” magazine’s Coordination for Literature’s Promotion with the objective of promoting reading and local authors’ works.

There are few words which talk about authors’ life –who will be in CCCCU- below.

Jose Juan Zapata Pacheco (Torreon, Coahuila, 1984). He got a Bachelor’s Degree in Hispanic Letters in the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon. He has worked –as cultural journalist- as journalist in newspapers such as “La Opinion,” “Milenio” in Torreon and “El Porvenir” in Monterrey. He also has worked with “Artefacto,” “Entretodos,” “Replicante,” “Armas y Letras” magazines and in “Vanguardia” newspaper’s weekly magazine. He is the author of “Persistencia de las tolvaneras” collection of poems (UANL, 2009). Currently, he is working in “Vida Universitaria,” the UANL newspaper.

Juan Jose Matamoros (Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, 1959). A poet. In the middle of the 80’s, he participated in several literary workshops, one of them was ODEM (Organizations of Monterrey Writers). Subsequently, he published several poems in cultural sections of “El Norte” and “El Porvenir” newspapers. In 1987, he published “Primero estoy muerto” -a collection of poems- that was edited by painter David Gonzalez’s Arts Academy. He was the Universidad Mexicana del Noreste Literary Workshop coordinator. He also has published his works in literary Mexican and International magazines; one of them is “La Nueva Alcarria” from Guadalajara, Spain.

Monica Muskaria (Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, 1977). She got Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish Letters in the UANL School of Philosophy and Language Arts; and a Diploma course in Dramatic Art in the same school. She wrote “Leche y cocaina” book (Jitanjafora, Publisher, 2003). He has been worked –mainly- in dramatic art, poetry and recently, in the script.

Sara Uribe (Queretaro, Queretaro, 1978). She lives in Tampico, Tamaulipas since 1996. She got a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy. She got 2004 “Carmen Aladin” Regional Award of Poetry, “2005 Tijuana” National Poetry Award and “Clemente Lopez Trujillo” National Poetry Award (Biennial of Literature, 2004-2005 Yucatan). She received a scholarship by the National Fund for Culture and Arts from 2006 to 2007 (FONCA, Spanish abbreviation). Currently, she is Historical Archive of Tampico, Tamaulipas Director and “La Razon” newspaper’s cultural supplement columnist.

Miguel Covarrubias (Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, 1940). He has been professor of Letters and Humanities since more than forty years. He also is a poet, narrator, essayist, translator, editor and compiler. His literature books are “El poeta” (1969), “El Segundo poeta” (1977, 1981, 1988), “Pandora” (1988), “Sombra de pantera” (Editorial Art in Literature Award/National Chamber of the Mexican Poetry Publishing Industry, 1989) and “Antologia o tirania” (2003). He received the Arts Award by the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in 1989 in Literature category, and he received Civic Merit Medal in 1994 in Arts and Literature by the Nuevo Leon Government.

That is the way in which CCCCU will present five writers’ poems on October 21st in poetry cycle. The admission is totally free.

After the events, 2009 “Verso Norte” Poetry Cycle, “Posdata” magazine will carry out a compilation of the readings which will complement the important work of poetry promotion in Nuevo Leon.
