The Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL) will participate in the “First Informative Workshop about invading plants in Nuevo Leon,” which will be carried out on August 13th in Montemorelos, Nuevo Leon.
This workshop is focused on nursery people, producers, sellers, researchers, students, urban developers and all kind of people who are interested in horticulture and gardening.
“We need to invest and analyze what is happening with region’s ornamental plants, because the people prefer to cultivate plants that are not native from this place (Northeast Mexican Republic), because plants from this place survive for many years,” said doctor Glafiro Alanis, our Leadin Academic Institution School of Biological Sciences’ professor.
One of the main biodiversity loss causes in the whole world is the invading spacies. These species can be parasites’ vector and diseases for other species.
Usually, these species’ introduction has been because of the ignorance, so, doctor Alanis says “it is advisable that not only people who work in plants’ cultivation, but everybody is conscious about it, because climate change is benefiting to no native plants’ development and suffering from native plants’ loss.”
Other governmental organization will participate in this workshop such as National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR, Spanish abbreviation), the Corporation for Farming Development of Nuevo Leon and Nuevo Leon Government.
UANL is also participating with School of Biological Science collaboration, developing conferences and lectures where Dr. Glafiro Alanis will be present.
The meeting is on August 13th in Hotel Bugambilias Inn Hall in Montemorelos, Nuevo Leon; from 08:30 to 14:00. The entrance is free.
