Summer goes by with hot waves in Northern Hemisphere. In Monterrey, the climate is too extreme, and in this time, it is so hot, that is why is typically to talk about it.
So, Monterrey citizens suffer from high temperatures in this season –from June to September-. The hardest time is the one called ‘the dog days of summer’ referring to the hottest days, which start on July and has a length of 40 days.
There are negative consequences of high temperature such as endless diseases (dehydration). On the other hand, there are other diseases which are irreparable: skin diseases related to a great sun exposure.
This kind of diseases is the most common among the population. M.D. Carmen Liy Wong, who is dermatologist and UANL School of Medicine professor, offers us some prevention measures for skin care before ‘King of the Sky’ exposure.
“The most important prevention measure is to avoid the sun, especially in this summer, where the sun is too intense, because ultraviolet rays are stronger from 10am to 4 pm, when the skin is more affected by sun’s rays,” said the dermatologist.
It is goon to remember that dermis is the biggest organ that human body has, so doctor also says that to avoid sunburns we can apply ourselves a protection sun cream greater than 20th level, especially on areas exposed to the sun such as face, neck and arms.
“When people go to a pool is important they take a shower after they go out from it and apply a moisturizer cream on the body, because the chlorine in water and ultraviolet rays cause a higher level of burn in the dermis,” said doctor.
Other prevention measures are keeping hydrated. There are some fruits and vegetables such as carrot and peach called carotene, these fruits help to skin pigmentation and adapt it to solar radiation.
The most common negative consequences of this problem tend to be first and second degree burns. So, people who has very sensitive and fair skin should receive a dermatological evaluation, because in long-term this could cause a kind of skin cancer.
