The actor and architect Juan Alanis celebrates along with his son, the also actor Roberto Alanis — 40 and 15 years of trajectory respectively — with the play “Los ejotes son judías.”
“We decided to retake this play that we had presented four years ago, in 2005, for the high schools and the university’s community. We wanted to celebrate it — the acting trajectory — with this play for it is an acting dueling through a Hernan Galindo´s dialogue, which we considered relevant to characterize,” pointed out the architect Juan Alanis.
The montage — in which the Alanis celebrate their acting trajectory is a play of the theatre producer Hernan Galindo — is about a farcical encounter between two peculiar characters — an old Spaniard who has lived in Mexico for more than 60 years and a young Mexican Doctor’s Degree Spanish Language student.
Both star in a fun debate between the two cultures — the Spanish and the Mexican — which unfolds a series of amusing critiques, but at the same time promotes values such as patriotism, nationalism, and national identity.
The also Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon’s Musical Arts and Cultural Diffusion’s Principal mentioned they decided to create the 2009 tour on the Monterrey’s small theatre rooms, such as the “Sala Experimental Teatro de la Ciudad”, the “Teatro La Estación” in the “Casa de la Cultura,” and the “Sala Guajardo” for these are a comfortable, accessible, and cheap option for the audience.
“Though we charge 30 and 40 pesos: 30 for students, professors and elders, and 40 for the general public, we present a quality theatre,” he said.
In November, Hernan Galindo and the Monterrey’s theatre dean, Ruben Gonzalez Garza will be in charge of commemorating this special play’s 50 representations.
A Father’s Pride
The architect Alanis shares his feelings of working with his son Roberto. “ It is really satisfying form me to present this play along with my son, it is a challenge in which none of us inhibit for we both love the stage and we put our father and son roles aside to deepen in our characters in search of the values they defend. The most interesting thing for me is that we are at the same acting level,” he assured.
Also, he points out that one of the main acting values he has taught his son is the respect for the stage, which every actor must keep in mind.
