Personnel of the Hospital Universitario Dr. Jose Eleuterio Gonzalez — with the purpose of preventing and detecting this disease on time — carried out talks and medical check-ups during the “Skin cancer prevention and detection day,” which is taking place for the fifth consecutive year.

Skin cancer is the most frequent one in the world’s population. It is curable if detected on time.

One of the Hospital Universitario specialists´ main advices regarding the skin diseases is the use of solar protector on a daily basis. This must be dermatologic and should be applied 3 or 4 times a day.

Among the skin cancer corroboration studies we find the ones carried out by a dermatoscope which are later programmed for a biopsy. If the results are positive, the first option is surgery; in some other cases the chemotherapy and radiotherapy may be needed.

“The earlier it is detected, the easier it will heal,” mentioned Doctor Jorge Ocampo Candiani head of the Hospital Universitario dermatology area.

The specialized doctor talked about the skin cancer risks in white tonalities, for it is a fact that having less melanin means less defense mechanisms, for which it is recommended to follow the experts´ advices in order to prevent this disease.

Very early, groups of 50 people were conduced to the hospital’s facilities. They were given a chat regarding the skin cancer prevention, as well as personalized attention for the check-up is search of cancerous or pre-cancerous cells.

“We urge to go to your dermatologist, to a consultation, in order to treat it on an specific way,” said M.D. Leobardo Velazquez, specialist in the dermatology area of the University’s Hospital.
