The Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon carried out the First Congress of Nutrition, on October 1st, 2nd and 3rd, at Mederos Campus Theater and the School of Public Health and Nutrition.

The Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon carried out the First Congress of Nutrition on October 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at Mederos Campus and the School of Public Health and Nutrition (FASPYN, Spanish abbreviation).
The opening ceremony was managed by professor Yolanda Elva de la Garza Casas, who is FASPYN principal, and Doctor Carlos Guerrero Salazar, UANL Post Degree Studies General Director.
During those three days, a programs composed by ten lectures, three panels and eight workshops was developed.
Center for Northeast Biomedical Research, National Institute of Medical Science and Nutrition, the Universidad de Guadalajara (UdeG, Spanish abbreviation) University Center of Exact Sciences and Engineering, National Institute of Psychiatry, Center for Research in Food and Development experts, among other ones were the speakers in the event.
“It is also important to highlight industry, health, governmental sector and civil society’s commitment,” said De la Garza Casa about education processes which have been exposed with seven institutions that supported the School of Public Health and Nutrition to carry out the congress.
The event also had 28 speakers’ performance as well as 34 research works presented on posters by this school’s different professors, who put them on University Theater entrance.
NUTRITION AND GENETICS?
In the First Congress of Nutrition, the first lecture was “Nutrigenomics: Genotype-Nutrition Interaction” by Doctor Ricardo M. Cerda Flores.
The speaker expossed an introduction about genetics, he talked about the racial mixture through some examples as Spanish Conquest in Mexico and Gregor Mendel’s researching development.
During his lecture, he talked about genomic works and researches which have made that companies develop genetic diets, because the diet depends on physical characteristics because any organism is the same, he said.
Through graphics, schemes, images and examples, the researcher talked about genetic mapping, the analysis, and he also said that current medicine is based on diagnosis and treatment, but thanks to these researches the prevention will be the permanent step in the future.
So, nutrition students observed genotype’s interaction, nutrition and the environment.
