The cacomistle is an endemic species of Mexico that was adopted as their pet by the School of Biological Sciences and the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL), symbol of identity and belongingness.
And this carnivorous mammal — of a lonely, nocturnal, and arboreal nature — receives students, professors, workers, and researchers at this university establishment’s entrance.

“This cacomistle sculpture must be identified by the School of Biological Sciences as an element of unification and belongingness for the institution,” expresses Doctor Juan Manuel Alcocer Gonzalez.

The university professor unveiled the pet’s image, in the framework of the institution’s 57th foundation anniversary, which included cake and a series of academic and cultural activities.
This event took place on September 23rd, with the presence of Doctor Maria Juan Verde Starr, Professional Services Vice-president; the Professor-counselor Antonio Guzman, and the Student-counselor Anwar Medina Villarreal.
Besides the students’ community, the retired Professor Hectors Valentine Medina Pedraza, who in his student’s years won the pet’s selection contest for the Biology school also attended the event.
