The most ambitious project in scientific and health research for Nuevo Leon was opened in the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon by UANL President Jose Antonio Gonzalez Treviño and Governor, Jose Natividad Gonzalez Paras: the Center for Research and Development in Health Sciences (CIDCS, Spanish abbreviation).

The Center for Research and Development in Health Sciences (CIDCS, Spanish abbreviation) is opened in order to research, innovate, develop technology and create high level human resources on the health field, all of this with a starting inversion of 524 million pesos.
UANL President, Jose Antonio Gonzalez Treviño, said this center is one of the UANL strategic projects, and it is joined health area infrastructure for creating multidisciplinary working groups in researches linked to the doctorate degree programs included in the National Programs of Quality Postdegree Studies.
“The University is going to be in the vanguard –with this infrastucture- and will get an international leadership in its research works and technology development; we are so glad of settling this work of almost three years, thanks to Federal and State Government as well as private sector’s support,” said the university official.
HEALTH RESEARCH IS CONSOLIDATED
The CIDCS was opened –with specialized laboratories in strategic researches about the health- on September 29th by the Governor, Jose Natividad Gonzalez Paras, who highlighted the vision and will for settling an ambitious project for Nuevo Leon.
“On the vision of the knowledge society’s new model, health sciences were included as an important area, because there was a double situation for Nuevo Leon: there were strenght and opportunities about the health in shor and long-term in the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon,” said the Governor.
Doctor Juan Carlos Romero Hicks, CONACYT General Director, explained that the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon can give good results for academic excellence criteria and social appropriateness.
“When we are facing a crisis, we are improving proudly, and it gaves social appropriateness to all directors, professors, students and graduate students. Currently, the Universidad has to give good results for academic excellence criteria and social appropriateness,” he said.
And the University will fulfill with the work, because those 55 researches registered in the CIDCS will work in very vast areas of study, from the pharmacology, taxicology, human genetics, immunology, biomedical chemistry, analytics, human virology, public health, genomic medicine and biocomputing to nutrition.
This center’s equipment of communication and information technologies is amazing: 196 computers and 20 working stations, three videoconference rooms, 21 wireless antennas, nine audiovisual rooms, UANL Net connection, and access control and Closed-circuit Television. Internet II: access to more than five thousand universities.
UANL President, Jose Antonio Gonzalez Treviño, said for this Center for Research and Development in Health Sciences 200 million pesos investment will be necessary in order to start working with other laboratories and get 100 percent of its capacity.
VANGUARD CENTER
CIDCS construction started on November, 2006, now, it is a building composed by six levels, in a 15 thousand square meters; and for running this center’s first step, 524 million pesos were invested in construction work and equipment with Federal and State Government’s support.
It is important to say that CIDCS’s operation involves all the Leading Academic Institution health area’s schools such as: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Nursing, Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, Dentistry, Psychology and Public Health and Nutrition, as well as University Program of Health.
The UANL, made official the strategic alliances with different institutions for collaborating on CIDCS research projects such as the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM), Pan American Health Organization (OPS, Spanish abbreviation), the University of Harvard through the Schools of Public Health and Medicine; University of Valencia (Spain), Universidad del Mar de Plata (Argentina) and the University of Texas in San Antonio, among other ones.
